TLDR Ethyl Carbitol is the best at preventing split ends in permed hair.
The study investigated the effects of cosmetic treatments on split ends formation using an auto-brushing machine to simulate actual hair care processes. It concluded that structural changes in the amorphous matrix proteins of hair fibers were a key factor in split ends formation. Among the treatments tested, diethylene glycol monoethylether (Ethyl Carbitol; EC) was found to be the most effective in inhibiting split ends in permed hair, making it behave similarly to untreated normal hair in terms of split ends generation.
