TLDR The 2% spironolactone cream did not reduce hair growth in women with facial hirsutism.
The study aimed to prepare and evaluate the clinical effects of a 2% spironolactone-containing cream on hair growth in 12 women aged 17-50 years with mild to moderate facial hirsutism. Various cream formulations were tested for their physico-chemical properties, and the aqueous cream base was found to be the most stable. However, after applying the cream twice daily for 3 months, the results showed no significant effect on hair growth compared to the untreated side of the face. The study concluded that the 2% spironolactone cream was ineffective in reducing hair growth, suggesting that other formulations or dosages should be explored in future research.
