TLDR Kids from areas with more high school dropouts have higher rates of brain injuries.
The study analyzed 653 cases of severe pediatric Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) in Greater Vancouver from 2000 to 2013 and found a clear correlation between lower Socio-Economic Status (SES) and higher rates of TBI. Specifically, a 10% increase in the population without a high school diploma was associated with a 13% increase in pediatric TBI rates. Income-based indicators, however, were not reliable predictors of TBI rates. This suggests that educational attainment may be a more relevant SES indicator for pediatric TBI risk in this region.
