TLDR Men with urinary issues often don't stick to their medication long-term.
The study evaluated drug adherence in 758 men over 40 years old with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), treated with alpha blockers and 5-α-reductase inhibitors. It found low adherence rates, with 32% for 6-month and 23% for 12-month treatments, and noted that adherence decreased with longer treatment durations. A higher degree of LUTS/BPH correlated with better adherence, but overall, drug-related problems contributed to low adherence. The study suggested further research to improve adherence to pharmacological therapy for BPH.
