Peer Review of The Mediation Role of Sleep on the Relationship Between Drink Behavior and Female Androgenetic Alopecia
December 2024
TLDR Drinking sweetened tea and late bedtimes increase the risk of hair loss in women.
The study examined the link between sweetened tea drink consumption and female androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 613 women, including 308 AGA patients and 305 controls. It found that both occasional and frequent sweetened tea drink intake increased the risk of AGA. Additionally, higher sugar intake from soft drinks and hyperglycemia were associated with a greater risk of alopecia. Importantly, going to bed after 12 am significantly raised the risk of developing alopecia, with bedtime mediating the relationship between sweetened tea drink intake and alopecia, rather than sugar intake itself. The study concludes that sweetened tea drink consumption elevates the risk of female AGA, with sleep behavior playing a mediating role.
