TLDR Parents often know about skin care, but children with less educated, lower-income parents have more skin problems.
In 2014, a study surveyed 500 parents in Mauritius with children aged 1 month to 5 years, investigating the prevalence of skin problems and its correlation with parental awareness and socioeconomic factors. The most common skin issues were itching (22%), nappy rashes, and eczema. The study found that children with parents of lower socioeconomic status and lower education level had a higher incidence of skin problems. Despite this, 94% of parents demonstrated good knowledge on hygiene and showed concern towards their child's skin health. The study concluded that skin problems had little impact on the quality of life of children, with 45% of children not affected at all.
