TLDR Researchers created a reliable method to measure dexpanthenol and resorcinol in hair products.
In 2016, researchers developed and validated a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for accurately quantifying dexpanthenol (DP) and resorcinol (RC) in hair care products. The method utilized a C18 column and a phosphate buffer mobile phase, achieving good separation and linearity for both compounds, with RC concentrations ranging from 10.34 µg/mL to 82.69 µg/mL and DP concentrations from 10.44 µg/mL to 83.50 µg/mL. The method met International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) Q2(R1) guidelines, showing high accuracy with mean recoveries of 100.28% for RC and 100.02% for DP, precision with relative standard deviation (RSD) values below 0.21%, and robustness. The limits of detection (LOD) and quantitation (LOQ) were 2.19 µg/mL and 6.64 µg/mL for RC, and 0.62 µg/mL and 1.89 µg/mL for DP, respectively. This validated method is suitable for routine analysis and stability testing of these ingredients in personal care and dermatological products.
