TLDR Higher uric acid levels are linked to fewer urinary symptoms in healthy Korean men.
This study investigated the relationship between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and the incidence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in 101,091 healthy Korean men. Over a follow-up period totaling 358,982.6 person years, 13,424 participants developed significant LUTS. The findings indicated that men with the highest SUA levels (≥9.5 mg/dL) had a lower risk of developing significant LUTS compared to those with the lowest SUA levels (<5.5 mg/dL), with an adjusted hazard ratio of 0.77. The study suggested that higher SUA levels might play a role in reducing the risk of LUTS, although further research was needed to understand the biological mechanisms behind this association.
