TLDR Alopecia areata is not linked to vitamin B12 deficiency.
This study investigated the levels of holotranscobalamine (holoTC), vitamin B12, folate, and homocysteine in 75 patients with alopecia areata compared to 54 controls. The results showed no significant differences in these parameters between the two groups, suggesting that alopecia areata may not be associated with vitamin B12 deficiency. The researchers concluded that the co-occurrence of pernicious anemia and alopecia areata in rare autoimmune syndromes does not justify routine measurements of these parameters in alopecia areata patients.
