TLDR High serum fluoride levels may be linked to hair loss.
The study investigated the relationship between serum fluoride levels and telogen effluvium in 70 patients aged 18-50 with significant hair loss. It found that patients living in fluoride-endemic areas had higher mean serum fluoride levels (0.102 ppm) compared to those who lived in such areas for less than 5 years (0.075 ppm), with the difference being statistically significant (p < 0.05). The findings suggest that high serum fluoride levels may be associated with reduced hair density in chronic telogen effluvium, highlighting the need to evaluate serum fluoride levels in assessments for this condition.
