Seizure Control and Side-Effect Profile After Switching Adult Epileptic Patients from Standard to Extended-Release Divalproex Sodium

The study evaluated 47 adult epilepsy patients who were switched from immediate-release to extended-release divalproex sodium and followed for 6 months. Results showed no significant change in seizure frequency or overall side-effect profile. However, patients reported a significant subjective improvement in tremor, as measured by a 25-item questionnaire, and 71% preferred the extended-release formulation. The study concluded that switching to extended-release divalproex sodium is safe and preferred by most patients, particularly due to the perceived reduction in tremor impact on daily activities.
