TLDR Both patients and physicians are often dissatisfied with the control of systemic lupus erythematosus and lupus nephritis.
The study evaluated satisfaction with the control of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and lupus nephritis (LN) among 374 patients and their physicians, revealing significant discrepancies between the two groups. Physicians reported higher satisfaction rates (78.6% for non-nephritis SLE and 73.8% for LN) compared to patients (75.8% for non-nephritis SLE and 65.5% for LN). Dissatisfaction was linked to symptoms like joint issues, fatigue, and hair loss, and was more common in patients with moderate or severe disease or experiencing flares. The study highlighted the need for better alignment of treatment goals and communication between healthcare providers and patients to improve satisfaction and outcomes.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
