    Image of study
TLDR Tavaborole is a safe and effective toenail fungus treatment, with the 5% solution being the best option.
In three phase II trials involving a total of 336 adult patients with toenail onychomycosis, tavaborole topical solution demonstrated a good safety profile and therapeutic effect at concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, and 7.5%. The 5% solution showed the best balance of efficacy and safety at the day 360 follow-up. Efficacy was observed with treatment response rates ranging from 26% to 53% across the trials. Most adverse events were mild and not related to the study drug, with all 13 serious adverse events deemed unrelated. The studies concluded that tavaborole topical solution is a safe and effective treatment for onychomycosis at all tested concentrations, with the 5% concentration being the most favorable.
