TLDR Ringworm in cattle can be effectively treated with Povidone iodine and Whitefield ointment.
A study conducted at the Livestock Farm Complex, Apollo College of Veterinary Medicine in Jaipur, India, and on various farms, investigated the treatment of ringworm in cattle. The study involved 20 cattle calves aged between three months to one year, all of which had skin lesions and tested positive for Trichophyton sp. The treatment regimen consisted of a 2% liquid Povidone iodine application, followed by a topical application of Whitefield ointment twice a day for 15 consecutive days. This treatment led to a full recovery for all affected cows. The study emphasizes the importance of prompt medical attention for symptoms of dermatophyte infection to prevent further damage and promote faster healing. The treatment approach used in the study is highlighted as cost-effective and efficient for managing fungal infections in animals.
