TLDR Stopping azathioprine led to full hair regrowth and recovery in 2.5 months.
A 42-year-old female experienced sudden, diffuse hair loss and pancytopenia within 5 days of starting azathioprine for disseminated dermatitis, a rare case of anagen effluvium induced by the drug. Discontinuing azathioprine and providing supportive treatment resulted in full recovery, with hair regrowth and normalized blood parameters within 2.5 months. This case underscores the need for early detection and management of adverse drug reactions.
