TLDR Losartan can cause temporary loss of taste.
A 67-year-old man developed reversible ageusia (complete loss of taste) after starting losartan for hypertension, with symptoms appearing 3 weeks into therapy and progressing to complete ageusia by the 7th week. His taste returned to normal within 2-3 weeks after discontinuing the drug. The temporal relationship and lack of other causes suggested losartan was responsible, highlighting that losartan can cause unique side effects like reversible ageusia, in addition to those shared with ACE inhibitors.
