TLDR Children with frequent respiratory infections may have low levels of zinc, iron, and copper.
The study aimed to explore the relationship between repetitive respiratory tract infections (RRTI) and the levels of trace elements zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), and copper (Cu) in children's hair. It involved 170 children with RRTI and 150 normal children, with trace element levels measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Results indicated that children with RRTI had significantly lower levels of Zn, Fe, and Cu in their hair compared to the normal group (P<0.01). The study concluded that RRTI in children could be associated with deficiencies in these trace elements.
