Reduced Linear Hair Growth Rates of Vellus and of Terminal Hairs Produced by Human Balding Scalp Grafted onto Nude Mice

TLDR Balding scalps slow down hair growth.
The study conducted by Dominique Van Neste and colleagues in 1991 investigated the hair growth rates of vellus and terminal hairs from human balding scalps grafted onto nude mice. The results showed a significant reduction in the linear growth rates of both types of hair when compared to non-balding scalp hair. This finding suggested that the balding scalp environment negatively affected hair growth, providing insights into the mechanisms of hair loss and potential avenues for treatment.
