TLDR Cassia HPTC is an effective hair conditioner, better than some traditional options.
The study explored the use of high-charge-density cassia hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride (cassia HPTC), a quaternized galactomannan derived from Cassia tora and Cassia obtusifolia, as a hair conditioning agent. Cassia HPTC was found to effectively participate in the coacervate phase of conditioning shampoos, leading to efficient deposition on hair and providing superior conditioning benefits. Techniques such as cryo-scanning electron microscopy and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry were employed to analyze the deposits on hair. The results indicated that cassia HPTC had improved deposition efficiency compared to formulas containing quaternized guar. This suggested that cassia HPTC could serve as an alternative or adjunct to traditional cationic polymers, potentially reducing the amount of polymer needed for effective hair conditioning.
