TLDR Early transplantation helps avoid embarrassment and allows relaxed transplant sessions, but be cautious with young patients with thinning hair.
This 1984 article discusses the use of punch transplantation for early androgenetic alopecia. The author presents technical considerations and five case histories to support the efficacy of early transplantation. The author concludes that early transplantation has many advantages for most patients, including avoiding the embarrassment of waiting until baldness and allowing for a more leisurely pace to the staged transplanting sessions. However, caution should be exercised in young patients with thinning hair, as there may be an insufficient number of donor grafts to transplant the entire enlarged bald site.
