TLDR Aesthetic surgery can worsen depression and anxiety, especially in those with existing mood issues.
This mini-review outlines the psychological factors associated with aesthetic surgery, highlighting that procedures like abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, face lift, and rhinoplasty can lead to depression and anxiety, especially in patients with pre-existing mood disorders. It emphasizes the importance of considering patients' preoperative psychological state, as those with depression-prone personality traits are at higher risk of worsening mood symptoms postoperatively. The review aims to help surgeons better support patients by understanding these psychological factors throughout the surgical process.
