TLDR Finasteride improves prostate cancer detection in PSA test.
A study found that finasteride, a drug used to treat hair loss and enlarged prostate, improves the performance of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test for detecting prostate cancer. The drug increases the sensitivity of the test, making it more likely to detect high-grade disease in men who take finasteride. The study recommends informing men of the benefits of finasteride in preventing prostate cancer and improving the PSA test's performance for early detection of cancer. However, the study did not recommend taking finasteride as a form of chemoprevention.
