TLDR Both microneedling and PRP are effective for hair loss, with microneedling slightly better for hair growth and PRP better for hair retention.
This study compared the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy and microneedling in treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 40 male participants over 18 months. Participants were divided into two groups of 20, with one group receiving microneedling and the other PRP therapy, both supplemented with 5% topical minoxidil. Results showed significant improvements in hair density and count for both treatments. Microneedling slightly outperformed PRP in increasing hair count and density, while PRP excelled in hair retention. Both treatments are effective, minimally invasive options for AGA, with the choice depending on patient preferences and clinical needs.
