    The study found that procyanidins, a natural product extracted from grape seed, can alleviate neuropathic pain via the inhibition of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9/2 and the maturation of IL-1ß. The study was conducted on mice and found that PC directly inhibited the activity of MMP-9/2 in vitro. Additionally, PC blocked the maturation of interleukin-1ß, which is a critical substrate of MMPs, and markedly suppressed CCI-induced MAPK phosphorylation and neuronal and microglia activation. The study suggests that PC may be a potential therapeutic agent for neuropathic pain.
