Prescription and Over-the-Counter Medications Tool Kit

    Robbie Sarles
In response to a directive from the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) in 2000 requested that transit agencies review and establish policies regarding the use of over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription (Rx) medications by safety-sensitive employees to ensure public safety. To aid in this effort, the FTA created a tool kit containing example practices from various transit agencies, including policies, forms, procedures, and training aids. These resources were designed to educate employees about the potential dangers of medication use and to assist agencies in implementing effective safety measures. The tool kit also included recommended forms for identifying medication use in post-accident investigations.
