TLDR Method B with propylene glycol is better for stable low-concentration DPCP solutions for alopecia areata.
The study evaluated the stability of diphenylcyclopropenone (DPCP) in topical solutions for treating alopecia areata, using two preparation methods. Method A used acetone, while Method B used propylene glycol diluted with acetone. Over 6 months at 5ºC±3ºC, high concentrations (2%, 1%, 0.5%) of DPCP remained stable, whereas lower concentrations (0.05%, 0.1%, 0.01%) showed decreased stability after 3 months. Method B, using propylene glycol, is recommended for lower concentrations due to better stability. These findings aid in developing effective DPCP solutions for alopecia areata treatment.
