TLDR One in four people still had symptoms like weight loss, hair loss, and fatigue 12-14 weeks after recovering from COVID-19.
The study conducted in Chennai, India, involved 1001 COVID-19 recovered patients and found that 25% of them reported at least one persistent symptom 12-14 weeks post-recovery. The most common symptoms were weight loss (40%), hair loss (29%), and fatigue (26%). Hospitalization due to severe infection and having at least one comorbidity were linked to these persistent symptoms. Specifically, severe infection led to significant limitations in daily activities post-recovery. Despite this, 87% of participants reported no functional limitations compared to their pre-COVID-19 state. However, 2% had reduced usual activities due to symptoms and anxiety, and 0.3% needed constant support for daily activities.
