TLDR No link found between Coxsackie viruses and pemphigus.
The study explored the potential link between Coxsackie viruses (CVs) and pemphigus, involving 32 patients with pemphigus and 40 control subjects. It found no evidence of CV RNA sequences or Coxsackie virus and adenovirus receptor expression in the skin samples of pemphigus patients. Although a slightly higher presence of CV-IgG antibodies was observed in patients (12.5%) compared to controls (5%), the difference was not statistically significant. The research concluded that CV does not persist in the skin of pemphigus patients and suggested that more extensive studies are needed to understand the role of CVs in the etiology of pemphigus.
