TLDR People with hair loss have low zinc levels; zinc supplements and laser therapy may help.
A study conducted in Thailand found that individuals with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) had lower plasma zinc levels compared to healthy individuals. The study suggests that prescribing zinc supplementation may be beneficial for patients with AGA. Another study found that a topical botanical lotion increased and remodeled scalp collagen content, resulting in tighter hair pores and reduced risk of scalp microinflammation, a hallmark of AGA. A case report presented a severe case of alopecia areata treated with fractional photothermolysis laser, which induced hair regrowth possibly through the redistribution of T lymphocytes and wound healing process related to thermal injury. Fractional laser therapy may be an effective and low complications treatment for alopecia areata.
