TLDR Francisco Camacho Martinez has made significant contributions to skin and sexually transmitted diseases, developed surgical techniques, but is concerned about patient survival rates and over-specialization in dermatology.
Francisco Camacho Martinez, a prominent figure in Dermatology and Venereology, has held various academic and hospital positions, published over 850 papers and 22 books, and served in leadership roles in several academic societies. His significant contributions include research on vulvar reconstruction, melanoma cell vaccine, sexually transmitted diseases in HIV-positive patients, telogen alopecia from UV rays, and the SAHA syndrome. He has also developed surgical techniques like the 'Dulanto-Camacho flap' and 'Advancement flaps for vulvar reconstructions after vulvectomy'. Despite his achievements, he expressed disappointment over the low survival rate of patients with high surgical difficulties. He also voiced concern over the increasing sub-sub-specialization in dermatology, advocating for dermatologists to be complete practitioners. He refrained from predicting future breakthroughs in dermatology due to the unpredictability of developments in gene therapy or stem cell transplantation.
