TLDR Pangenome analysis reveals key genes for pig adaptation and traits, aiding genetic improvement.
The study presents a comprehensive pig pangenome assembly using 27 genomes, revealing significant structural variations (SVs) that play a crucial role in pig adaptation and breed-specific traits. Key findings include the identification of the BTF3 gene, which impacts intramuscular fat deposition and meat quality, and the discovery of 295.97 Mb of novel sequences and 276,032 nonredundant SVs. The research highlights the effectiveness of pangenome approaches in identifying new genomic features vital for agricultural traits, emphasizing the potential of large-scale analyses to enhance livestock genetic improvements. Despite these findings, further molecular studies are needed for validation.
