TLDR Tridax procumbens plant extracts, especially from ethanol, have strong antibacterial effects and contain beneficial compounds like flavonoids and tannins.
In 2016, a study analyzed the phytochemical composition and antibacterial activity of Tridax procumbens Linn. The plant's extracts, specifically from ethanol and petroleum ether, demonstrated significant antibacterial effects against several bacteria, including E. coli and S. aureus, with the ethanolic extract showing the largest inhibition zones. The benzene extract was less effective. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of flavonoids, tannins, phenols, and other compounds. The findings suggest that Tridax procumbens extracts could serve as potential antibacterial agents, and the study encourages further research into the plant's pharmacological properties and the therapeutic potential of its compounds.
