Oral lichen planus (OLP) was a chronic, T-cell mediated inflammatory disease affecting the oral cavity, with lesions commonly found on the oral mucosa, tongue, and gums. The disease had a low mortality risk but could significantly impact quality of life, especially in its erosive forms. The etiology of OLP was partially unknown, involving factors like drugs, dental materials, and genetic predisposition. Treatment was challenging due to the need to consider lesion type, disease extent, and potential adverse effects. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) emerged as a promising, minimally invasive treatment option with few side effects, showing potential in managing OLP.
