TLDR The Janwal Pashmi dog is a medium-sized, mostly black breed with specific body measurements, and adult males are generally larger than females.
The study conducted a phenotypic and morphometric characterization of 207 Janwal Pashmi dogs, a medium-sized breed found in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. The majority of these dogs were black (78.26%) with medium hair length (51.20%). Morphometric traits such as body weight, height at wither, body length, chest girth, tail length, head length, height at base of tail, neck length, neck girth, ear length, ear width, eye width, hind foot length, upper hind leg length, lower hind leg length, fore foot length, upper fore leg length, and lower fore leg length were studied. The effect of sex was found to be non-significant on all traits in puppies except for body weight, height at wither, height at base of tail, neck length, upper hind leg length, and upper fore leg length. However, in adult dogs, males were found to have significantly higher values for most traits. The study's findings may aid in the registration of the Janwal Pashmi dog as a distinct breed and its subsequent conservation.
