TLDR High doses of nandrolone decanoate disrupt ovarian hormones and receptors in rats, with recovery only at lower doses and longer recovery times.
This study investigated the effects of various doses of nandrolone decanoate (ND) on ovarian steroid receptors and sex hormones in adult rats. Rats were treated with ND or mineral oil for 15 days, followed by recovery periods of 30 or 60 days. Persistent diestrus was observed during ND treatment and after 30 days of recovery, with the highest dose maintaining diestrus until 60 days. The expression of steroid receptors and hormone levels, including testosterone, 17β-estradiol, and dihydrotestosterone, increased with higher ND doses, particularly 7.5 and 15 mg/kg. Follicle-stimulating hormone levels remained unchanged, while luteinizing hormone levels varied. Ovarian sex steroid receptors and hormones were restored only at lower ND doses and after extended recovery.
