TLDR Oral ivermectin effectively cured scabies with minimal side effects, and finasteride promoted hair growth in men with hair loss.
In a clinical trial from Egypt, 120 patients with scabies were treated with a single oral dose of ivermectin (200 µg/kg), and 101 patients completed the study. After two weeks, 89 patients (88.1%) were scabies-free, and by the four-week follow-up, all 101 patients (100%) were cured. Only 12 patients (11.88%) reported mild side effects like drowsiness and headache, indicating that oral ivermectin is a safe and effective treatment for scabies. Additionally, the document discussed the effectiveness of finasteride, a 5α-reductase inhibitor, in treating male pattern alopecia. It noted that finasteride at a dose of 1 mg/day promotes hair growth and slows hair loss in men aged 18-41 years and that a higher dose of 5 mg/day also increased hair growth in middle-aged and elderly men with benign prostatic hypertrophy and androgenetic alopecia. The number of participants in the finasteride study was not mentioned.
