TLDR Teledermatology can effectively treat certain skin conditions with topical treatments, reducing the need for in-person visits.
A retrospective cohort study at Duke Teledermatology analyzed data from 38 patients with inflamed seborrheic keratoses (iSKs) and actinic keratoses (AKs) to optimize teledermatology workflows. Of these, 65.8% were scheduled for in-person treatment, primarily receiving cryotherapy or biopsy, while 34.2% were prescribed topical therapy. Among those using topical treatments, 69% achieved symptom resolution, and for the remaining 31%, the wait time for subsequent appointments was similar to those initially scheduled for in-person visits. The study suggests that teledermatology can effectively manage iSKs/AKs with topical treatments, reducing the need for in-person visits and improving access to dermatologic care.
