TLDR Strain H61 may reduce some ageing symptoms like bone loss and hair loss.
The study investigated the effects of oral administration of Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris H61 on ageing in senescence-accelerated mice (SAMP6), which develop osteoporosis and other ageing symptoms. The administration of heat-killed strain H61 was linked to reduced bone density loss, fewer skin ulcers, and reduced hair loss compared to controls. It also altered immune responses, as indicated by increased production of interferon-gamma and IL-12. While the gut microbiota composition remained largely unchanged, Staphylococcus sp. counts were lower in the H61 group. There was no effect on lipid peroxidation status. The findings suggested that strain H61 could potentially mitigate some ageing-related manifestations.
