TLDR Most nurses have negative attitudes towards mental illness, highlighting the need for training to improve their views.
A study conducted among 400 nurses in selected tertiary care hospitals in India revealed that 77% of the nurses have negative attitudes towards mental illness, while only 23% have positive attitudes. The research, which used a non-experimental descriptive design and purposive sampling, found no significant association between nurses' attitudes and their background variables. The study highlights the urgent need for training programs to promote positive attitudes and sensitivity towards mental health issues among nurses, as mental health remains a critical concern in India, with a significant portion of the population affected but not seeking help due to stigma and discrimination.
