TLDR Most E. coli in broiler chickens are resistant to multiple antibiotics.
This study investigated the incidence of multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli in broiler chickens from 4 farms in Malang Regency, using 40 chicken jejunum swabs with a history of colibacillosis. The results showed that 72.5% of the samples were positive for E. coli, and all positive samples exhibited resistance to Erythromycin, Bacitracin, and Amoxicillin. Additionally, 96.6% were resistant to Enrofloxacin, 92.6% to Oxytetracycline, 37.9% to Colistin and Doxycycline, and 10.3% to Gentamicin. The study concluded that most E. coli positive samples demonstrated multidrug resistance to four or more antibiotics, highlighting a significant concern for antibiotic resistance in poultry.
