Mucocutaneous Findings in Pediatric Patients with Bone Marrow Transplantation

    The study aimed to define mucocutaneous changes in pediatric patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation (BMT) and included 44 patients, with 41 completing the study. The mean age was 9.24 years, with 64% male and 36% female participants. Dermatological examinations revealed that mucositis (75.6%), xeroderma (70.7%), and alopecia (46.3%) were the most common findings. Other observed conditions included nail disorders, inflammatory skin diseases, aphthous stomatitis, cutaneous hyperpigmentation, graft versus host diseases, infectious diseases, and maculopapular rash. The study concluded that dermatological diseases were frequently observed in BMT patients, highlighting the importance of close monitoring to minimize treatment complications.
