Modeling and Simulation of X-Rays Radiotherapy

TLDR Microbeam Radiation Therapy is effective, but using a linear accelerator reduces its benefits.
The thesis explored Microbeam Radiation Therapy (MRT) through simulations and dosimetric calculations using the Monte Carlo technique. It confirmed the suitability of the MCNPX code for micrometric dosimetry at low X-ray energies, aligning with existing literature. Dose distribution calculations for bidirectional interlaced MRT (BIMRT) were conducted using realistic head phantom models, showing that the structure of the phantom affected dose distribution. The use of an Au contrast agent significantly increased the target dose. The study also evaluated the use of a linear accelerator (linac) as a radiation source for stereotactic MRT, finding that the advantages of MRT were not maintained with linac use.
