TLDR The chapter concludes that certain skin diseases in bovines cause symmetrical, non-painful lesions and temporary hair loss due to stress.
The chapter discussed various fungal skin diseases in bovines, focusing on sterile eosinophilic folliculitis and furunculosis, which is a rare, idiopathic disorder affecting adults without breed or sex predilections. Lesions are symmetrical, commonly on the head, neck, and trunk, and are neither pruritic nor painful. Anagen defluxion, another condition covered, is caused by severe stressors leading to temporary hair growth defects, primarily affecting calves. Hair loss occurs suddenly within 7-10 days of the stressor, is bilaterally symmetric, and the skin appears normal unless secondarily inflamed.
