TLDR A woman was allergic to 5% minoxidil, with stronger reactions to higher concentrations.
In a case report from 2010, a 60-year-old woman with androgenetic alopecia developed allergic contact dermatitis after using a topical lotion containing 5% minoxidil, 15% propylene glycol, and 80% alcohol and water mixture for four months. Patch tests showed a positive reaction to 5% minoxidil. Further testing with different concentrations and solvents revealed that the allergic response was dose-dependent, as 5% minoxidil in petrolatum and ethanol caused weak and moderate skin reactions, respectively, while 1% minoxidil did not cause an allergic reaction. The treatment and outcome for the woman were not provided in the document.
