TLDR Male marathon runners in their 40s and 50s had more hair loss and higher heavy metal levels.
The study analyzed the mineral content in the hair of marathon runners with hair loss who participated in the Chuncheon Marathon in March 2006. It found that more male runners experienced hair loss compared to female runners, with those in their 40s and 50s being most affected. The analysis revealed higher levels of heavy metals such as aluminum, mercury, and barium in the subjects. Additionally, the mineral content in the hair of these runners showed lower levels of selenium, manganese, phosphorus, and sulfur, while potassium, calcium, zinc, sodium, copper, and chrome were higher. This research highlighted the potential link between mineral imbalances and hair loss in athletes.
