Studysummary This study found that combining microneedling at depths of 0.5 mm or 1 mm with minoxidil tincture significantly improved hair density and diameter in men with androgenetic alopecia compared to minoxidil alone, although the deeper microneedling also led to higher adverse reactions. Our plain-language summary of this paper — not a Tressless recommendation.
The study observed the clinical efficacy and safety of microneedling at different depths combined with minoxidil tincture for treating male androgenetic alopecia. Conducted from June 2020 to June 2021, it involved 90 male patients divided into three groups: Group A received only minoxidil tincture, Group B received 0.5 mm deep microneedling with minoxidil, and Group C received 1 mm deep microneedling with minoxidil. After 12 weeks, all groups showed significant improvement in hair density and diameter, with Groups B and C showing better results than Group A. However, Group C had a higher incidence of adverse reactions (26.67%) compared to Groups A and B (6.67% each). The study concluded that 0.5 mm deep microneedling combined with minoxidil is an effective and safe treatment option for male androgenetic alopecia.
