TLDR Microneedling with clobetasol cream works better for hair regrowth in alopecia areata than clobetasol cream alone.
The study evaluated the efficacy of microneedling combined with clobetasol propionate 0.05% cream versus clobetasol propionate 0.05% cream alone in the treatment of alopecia areata. The study involved 20 patients with a total of 99 patches of hair loss. Group A, consisting of 51 patches, was treated with microneedling and clobetasol propionate 0.05% cream, while Group B, consisting of 48 patches, was treated with clobetasol propionate 0.05% cream alone. At the 8th week visit, 58.8% of patches in Group A responded to treatment with 63.3% showing complete coarse hair regrowth. In Group B, 58.3% of patches responded to treatment with 32.1% showing complete coarse hair regrowth. The study concluded that the combination of microneedling with clobetasol propionate 0.05% cream is a promising, safe, and easy to perform technique in the treatment of alopecia areata, showing a statistically significant difference in complete hair regrowth compared to using clobetasol propionate 0.05% cream alone.
