TLDR Organically grown carrots have less heavy metal content and are safer to eat.
The study conducted in Loc Thanh village, Vietnam, examined metal accumulation in carrots, soil, and irrigating water. It found that the soil was nutrient-poor but had high pH, Al3+, and Fe+, while the water contained elevated levels of Cu, Zn, and Fe, though it lacked toxic heavy metals like As, Pb, and Cd. Carrots grown with chemical fertilizers had excess As, Pb, Cu, and Zn, whereas organically grown carrots had reduced heavy metal content, suggesting that organic methods are crucial for producing safe, high-quality carrots. The study highlights the health benefits of carrots, including their potential to improve eyesight, support diabetes treatment, and stimulate hair growth.
