TLDR Nearly half of women with PCOS have metabolic syndrome, and lifestyle changes are crucial to prevent complications.
The study investigated the prevalence and characteristics of metabolic syndrome (MS) in women of reproductive age with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) at a hospital, involving 131 participants. It found that 45.8% of these women had MS, with significant risk factors including age, body mass index (BMI), waist-hip ratio (WHR), and family history of diabetes. Specifically, 100% of women aged 35-39 and 82.6% with a BMI over 30 had MS. Additionally, 94% of women with PCOS had HDL levels below 50 mg/dL, and 58% had triglycerides over 150 mg/dL. The study highlighted the importance of lifestyle modification and early intervention to prevent long-term complications of PCOS.
