TLDR Using Malaysian medicinal plants in cosmetics can treat skin and hair issues with fewer side effects than synthetic products.
This review discussed ten commonly available medicinal plants in Malaysia—Aloe vera, Curcuma longa, Cocos nucifera, Cucumis sativus, Melaleuca alternifolia, Punica granatum, Garcinia mangostana, Carica papaya, Lawsonia inermis, and Hibiscus rosasinensis—used in cosmetic formulations. These plants have been traditionally used to treat various skin conditions and hair problems, including acne, dry skin, dull skin, and alopecia. The review highlighted that different parts of these plants produce various beneficial effects and that using herbal and natural ingredients in cosmetics significantly reduces side effects compared to synthetic cosmetics.
